Community Engagement

YBCA's Community Engagement is a dynamic, multi-faceted education and outreach department that explores and contextualizes YBCA's Big Ideas to the broadest possible audience. Our educational and public programs work collaboratively with YBCA curators and community groups to illuminate the social relevance of contemporary art. Through these programs we create a culture of inquiry and curiosity and respond to the diverse needs in our communities, from local to global.

Exploring Community Engagement

Center for Community Life. Our public programs and Room for Big Ideas are designed to deepen audience experience by providing educational, social, and interactive opportunities that feature our presented art and artists and our curatorial themes or YBCA's Big Ideas. Expressing our commitment to equity and access, YBCA's civic engagement activities include community outreach and collaborative projects in partnership with organizations and key stakeholders from diverse Bay Area sub-communities.

Youth and School Programs are designed to promote early engagement in the arts for K-12 school aged youths. Our Young Artists at Work program is a paid afterschool program that promotes arts mastery and community activism for gifted and promising high school youths. Our Discovering YBCA programs provide guided and self-guided gallery tours as well as special matinee lecture-demonstration and screenings to introduce younger audiences to performing arts and film/video.
