about
Dear Friends,
As we begin our fifteenth season here at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, there is a palpable sense of urgency and excitement in the air. Our world is changing at an unbelievable pace. Every day another tidal wave of change sweeps over us and transforms our state of being, often in ways we could never have imagined—which makes this a great time to be a contemporary arts center in America’s most interesting city!
Once again we’ve organized this season’s offerings into three "Big Ideas"—broad themes that artists are exploring and which relate directly to you and your world. We’re especially pleased that our first Big Idea, "Bay Area Now 5," is our triennial celebration of the most amazing art and artists of, by and about the Bay Area. "Imagining Our Future" and "Ritual and Redemption" complete our trio of Big Ideas and each offers an exhilarating new perspective on today’s world.
While the 08_09 Performance Season has been in the works for more than a year, the artists will be working up to the very last moment, letting their creative energy flow, bringing to you a truly unique vision of the world that we live in. Their work is fresh, vital and alive, just as contemporary art should be.
That vision is not complete unless you are here to see, feel and experience this art. In the spirit of discovery—and our passionate desire to ensure you have the opportunity to interact with these amazing artists, art and ideas—we’ve reduced ticket prices. We may reside in one of the most expensive cities in the country, but at YBCA we are dedicated to providing you with "Big Ideas. Small Prices." Indeed, without you here, the art doesn’t exist.
So turn off the remote, unplug your iPod, put down the cell phone and come to YBCA, where the action is fast and furious, where the fun, magic and excitement of live performance and groundbreaking contemporary art makes this the place to be for every hip San Franciscan. (Which of course we all are!)
Welcome.
